Janelle Kearney

Chair

Janelle Kearney is the Chair of the Labrador West Status of Women - where she has been an active member since 2024. With a wealth of experience in the criminal justice system, Janelle brings expertise in understanding provincial legislations and federal acts, as well as experience in helping victims of violence in the region.


In her professional career, Janelle has held the role of Constable with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary since 2016. Janelle moved to the region in 2017, and has been an active member in the community since her transfer. Janelle received the Volunteer of the Year award with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary in 2019 and continues to volunteer with a number of organizations within Labrador West.

She is passionate about helping victims of violence, and strives to help them find their voice, and believes the best way is to guide them to organizations that can support them in their journey. Janelle is dedicated to contributing to the Labrador west Status of Women’s vision and goals.

Outside of their professional work, Janelle has 2 beautiful children, 2 dogs and 2 cats. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Janelle’s favorite quote is “a beautiful thing is never perfect” - unknown.

As Chair, her major roles and responsibilities are to preside over all board meetings and ensure that each new board member has read the organization’s by-laws, governance policies, and relevant legal documents. She serves as the primary spokesperson and is one of the signing officers on behalf of the organization. As an ex officio member of all committees, she attends every key meeting or, if unavailable, delegates her duties to the Vice-Chair. She holds the authority to call meetings, request employee timesheets for review, and vote only to break a tie. Finally, she is responsible for ensuring that all board orders and resolutions are effectively carried into action.
